1. Do I need to know how to dive or swim?

Absolutely not! You don’t need to be a professional swimmer or hold any diving certificates—It’s not necessary. The key here is comfort. If you enjoy being in the water (No fear of being underwater), even if it’s just lounging in a pool or wading at the beach, you’re already ahead. Feeling at ease in the water is more important than being a strong swimmer. Plus, I’ll coach you throughout the session; I’ll walk you through everything you need to know, from how to breathe with the equipment to what poses we’ll be doing, and trust me, there’s just one simple trick you need to know.

During the shoot, I’ll be right there with you, giving you directions and ensuring your safety at all times. My goal is for you to have fun and feel relaxed throughout the entire experience. You’re in good hands!

2. How long do I need to hold my breath?

You’ll be surprised! Holding your breath for a few seconds is all it takes—not even a minute, just seconds. Though, if you can hold your breath longer than necessary, that’s perfect, but if not, it’s no problem at all. I will communicate with you above water, guiding you on poses and what to expect next. So, no need to stress about long breath-holding sessions. Trust me, just a few seconds will do the trick.

3. Do I need to know how to pose?

Not at all! I’ll handle that part. You don’t need any modeling experience; I’ll be your guide throughout the session. Before we dive in, I’ll show you the poses and direct you from above the water. So, for example, after capturing a pose, we go above the water and I’ll tell you what pose to do next, then we go underwater again.

4. Where will the underwater shoots take place?

Most of our sessions will be in a swimming pool for safety. However, if you’re confident in open water, we can explore other locations like reefs and creeks, and make it a lot more interesting. Just let me know your comfort level, and I’ll recommend the best spot. We want everything to be comfortable and safe, as it is our top priority, but still a fun experience for you.

5. What’s the best time of year for underwater shoots?

The great thing about being in Cairns, Australia, is that we have warm weather all year round. Even in winter, it’s manageable. We’re not restricted by weather; rain or shine, we’re in the water! Rainy days add an interesting touch to the photos, while sunny days create a different atmosphere. So, there are no weather barriers to your underwater adventure. That’s a big reason to try and do underwater photography!
